FRANCHINA, Joseph Sebastian, 85, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017 in Dayton, Ohio. Joe was born and raised in Jamestown, New York and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1950. He attended John Carroll University in Cleveland, served in the U.S. Air Force, and was employed by the Hormel Foods Corporation in sales for 45 years. Joseph was a member of St. Luke and St. Joseph parishes. He was a past president of the Order Sons of Italy in America—Giovanni Pirelli Lodge #1633 in Kettering, founding president of the Regional Alliance of Italian Americans, a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree in Jamestown, and the American Legion. In his youth he was an excellent athlete, and was a fan of the Bengals, Browns, Reds, and UD basketball. Joseph was an extraordinary salesman for Hormel, servicing Air Force bases throughout the United States. He was preceded in death by his parents Antonino and Carmela (DiMarco) Franchina, and his son Dominic. Joseph is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances Marie (Longo); sons Anthony, Joseph, Michael, Giovanni (Tuscia)—all of Dayton; and brother John (Ann) of New York. The family will receive friends from 4-8pm on Friday, September 22, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Saturday, September 23 at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 1440 N. Fairfield Road, Beavercreek with a visitation one hour prior (9:30-10:30) in the narthex of the church. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the University of Cincinnati Neuroscience Institute, the University of Dayton Marian Library, or the charity of your choice.
